Why do I need my ACLS card renewed?
The American Heart Association periodically updates its guidelines for how to perform these lifesaving maneuvers. As we discover more, we often find that strategies we thought were effective are actually not as effective as other, newer strategies. Medical science is constantly improving and finding out more about how the human body works. Details such as how many chest compressions to give and when to give the rescue breath depend largely on the effect of oxygen depletion in the human brain and how quickly blood becomes oxygen depleted, for instance. Is it best to continue giving chest compressions or to stop the chest compressions and give a rescue breath? These guidelines change over time as scientists and doctors learn more.
Taking the ACLS renewal class will get you up to date on the most recent information about lifesaving methods.
The ACLS renewal class from NorCal Emergency Medical Training will also help to keep these lifesaving techniques fresh in your mind. When someone two seats down from you on the bus starts to have a heart attack, you do not want to be thinking back to the CPR class you took ten years ago and trying to remember what to do. You need to have the information ready to go because you just took a refresher course this year. During an emergency, people panic. By getting your ACLS card renewed every year, you can help to ensure that you will be the one who does not panic.
